09/10/2013: JFK and other stuff

Another fine and beautiful day.

Today, I did a private tour of Dallas which I had arranged before I left Australia. I was picked up from the hotel by my guide. The tour started at Pioneer Plaza which features a cattle drive with Texas Longhorn statues.

Then, it was off to the Dallas Arts District and the Winspear Opera House and the Meyerson Symphony Center. Private donations fund the buildings but the city of Dallas handles the on-going operation including ticket sales; maintenance; etc.

Then it was on to the *Belo Mansion* - home of the Dallas Bar Association - which is used for weddings and conventions. Dallas is located half way between the west and east coasts of America which makes it an ideal location for transport.

Other sights visited:

Southern Methodist University;

*Highland Park* - location of some of the costliest real estate in Dallas;

Dealey Plaza;

The *infamous* grassy knoll; and

JFK Memorial

I finished the day by doing an audio tour of the Sixth Floor Museum at the Book Depository - the location of where Lee Harvey Oswald fired the shots that took the life of John F Kennedy.
